According to several media reports, Vice President Kamala Harris will hold her inaugural campaign rally with her newly chosen running mate next week in a crucial swing state. The rally is set for Tuesday in Philadelphia, where Harris, 59, is expected to announce her selection by then, as reported by Politico.
After the announcement, Harris and her vice-presidential candidate will embark on a four-day campaign tour across seven swing states. They will visit western Wisconsin, Detroit, Michigan, Raleigh, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Phoenix, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada, following the event in Pennsylvania, according to the Harris campaign.
Showcasing her running mate in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, is likely to spark speculation that Harris has chosen Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro.
The 51-year-old governor, who grew up in Montgomery County near Philadelphia, has been considered a leading contender for the vice-presidential slot.
Over the past several days, Shapiro has been actively campaigning for Harris throughout Pennsylvania. His social media presence has mainly been dedicated to supporting the vice president while criticizing former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) since President Biden announced on July 21 that he would not seek re-election.
Pennsylvania will have 19 electoral votes at stake in the 2024 election. In 2020, the state narrowly supported Biden by less than 2 percentage points, while in 2016, it went for Trump by a margin of less than 1 point.
