In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has successfully sunk a Russian submarine and targeted a Russian airfield, marking a significant increase in long-range assaults on Russian sites, according to officials. Additionally, Russia reported that Ukrainian drones struck an apartment building, resulting in one fatality.
This surge in attacks, which began in July, coincides with Ukraine's efforts to persuade its allies to permit the use of long-range missiles for strikes within Russia. However, Western allies, especially the United States, have been hesitant due to concerns over potential escalation from Moscow.
Ukraine's General Staff announced on Saturday that a Russian Kilo-class submarine and an S-400 anti-aircraft missile system were hit in the Moscow-occupied Crimean peninsula. The S-400 system was intended to protect the strategically significant Kerch Strait Bridge, a critical supply route for Russian forces.
The statement detailed that Ukrainian missile forces and the Navy managed to damage four launchers of the Triumph air defense system. In Sevastopol's port, the Russian Black Sea fleet's "Rostov-on-Don" submarine was attacked and sunk.
Over the past month, Ukraine has intensified its drone and long-range attacks on Russian military infrastructure, including airfields and oil depots. Analysts suggest that this escalation is crucial for Ukraine to diminish Russian military capabilities.
The General Staff also confirmed a successful strike on the Morozovsk airfield in Russia's Rostov region, following a substantial drone assault. The attack hit ammunition warehouses storing guided aerial bombs. This operation involved Ukraine's Security Service, Main Directorate of Intelligence, and Defense Ministry.
