A woman was shot and killed after attempting to intervene in a conflict, according to Action News.
Police have reportedly reviewed surveillance camera footage that shows two people fighting outside a convenience store on the 2500 block of Kensington Ave. shortly after midnight. The bystander then got between the people and was shot when one of the people fighting opened fire. The shooter appeared to be aiming for the other person; there was a group of people outside the store.
The woman was taken to Temple University Hospital and died shortly after, according to Philly Voice. Her name has not been released. Police said she appeared to be in her mid-to-late 30s. Police are still working to identify the shooter, but said they do not believe there is any threat to the public.
Most businesses in Kensington have an 11 p.m. curfew to curtail violence in the area. But liquor license holders can stay open until 2 a.m.
Four men were injured in a shooting outside a store on Lancaster Avenue last week. There was been a rash of gun violence in the city in recent days, but officials said earlier this summer there had been an over a 40% reduction in shootings since Mayor Cherelle Parker took office.
