Check out fun things to do this first week in December, with holiday events aplenty.
The best thing about the Christmas season in the Greater Philadelphia is there is nearly never a lull of activities to do. There are so many exciting events in and around our own communities to celebrate the season, be it a TubaChristmas Concert, taking a selfie with a reindeer, or a "smelly" comedy show in Jenkintown.

Annual Tree Lighting, TubaChristmas Concert & the Mater Dei Christmas Market
There are events galore this week in Lansdale Borough. The Annual Tree Lighting takes place Friday at 6 p.m. at Railroad Plaza.
Then, Mater Dei Catholic School holds its Christmas Market on Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 439 E. Main St. The market has exclusive holiday artisans, crafters, vendors, a raffle table, a Christmas Café with breakfast and lunch, a Sweet Shoppe with homemade baked goods, and a Santa’s Workshop with children’s activities, photos with Santa and more.
Finally, the TubaChristmas Concert returns to Railroad Plaza for an outdoor performance (weather dependent) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Elf Scavenger Hunt
On Thursday, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Skippack Township’s Elf Scavenger Hunt takes place at the Skippack Township Building. The township elves have escaped and it needs help finding them! Attendees can walk around the township trails and help find elves, and then enjoy hot chocolate, treats and Christmas cheer indoors.
The township will be collecting new pajamas to help children at Nemours Children’s Health who are battling sickle cell disease.
Live Reindeer Pictures
Froehlich’s Farm & Garden Center, 3143 York Road, Furlong, Bucks County, will hold a Live Reindeer Event and Photo Opportunity on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. While Santa is hard at work in his workshop, his reindeer will make a special appearance at the farm. Tickets and pre-registration are required.

Montgomery County Community College invites the public to its Fall 2024 Liberal Arts Presents “Performing Art Showcase Music Concert” on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The evening will feature the jazz band ensemble, the music theatre class, string orchestra, and college choir. There is no cost to attend the event, which will be held on the Blue Bell Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, in Blue Bell, inside the Montco Cultural Center Theater. Sip ‘N Shop Winter Market
The Borough of Hatboro will play host to the Winter Sip ‘N Shop Market on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pennypack Facility, 130 Spring Ave., in Hatboro. The public is invited to come out and enjoy an evening of shopping vendors from throughout the area, as well as the sale of food and drinks. Jack Skellington and Santa will be available for photos. What’s That Smell Comedy Show
Those 21 and over are invited to the sixth part of the “What’s That Smell?!” comedy show. Headlined by Tata Sherise, the show will be hosted on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the 1910 Bar & Grill, located at 300 Meetinghouse Road in Jenkintown. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available on Event Brite. Other comedians will include Claudia Estrada, Adam Flick, Michael Beavers, Patrick Romo, Lil’ Jough, and Sean O’Shaughnessy.
