The Roxborough Development Corporation has launched Art on the Ridge, a six-week holiday pop-up gallery at 6133 Ridge Avenue, open now through December 28th. The gallery showcases the work of local artisans and fine artists from Northwest Philadelphia, offering the community a chance to experience and purchase unique, handcrafted pieces.
Visitors can browse a diverse collection of custom jewelry, photography, quilted wall hangings, and fine art, with works available for purchase. The initiative aims to increase foot traffic along Ridge Avenue, especially during evening hours, and serves as a model for a potential permanent gallery space in the neighborhood.
A partnership with the Manayunk Roxborough Art Center (MRAC) helped secure funding through grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Philadelphia Activities Fund, along with sponsorships from Baker Street Partners and Christine Ertz/The Main Street Team. Over ten MRAC member artists are featured in the pop-up, aligning with the center’s mission of "Artists bringing people together."
Beyond supporting local artists, Art on the Ridge activates a vacant storefront on Ridge Avenue, demonstrating its potential as a vibrant, community-driven business space. The project also creates temporary employment for two individuals, with an established gallery manager mentoring a newcomer to the workforce, contributing to both the arts and workforce development in the community.
Gallery Hours (Holiday Schedule):
With community partnerships, local art, and holiday charm, Art on the Ridge offers a one-of-a-kind cultural experience for Roxborough residents and visitors alike.
