Winter can be a dark and dreary season. It seems especially boring after all of the holiday glitz and glam is over, tucked back into the attic and garage until next year. Thankfully, those in and around Abington have a chance to brighten up the color of life even in the winter with the upcoming offerings from the Abington Art Center.

The Center’s “Winter 10-Week Session” is about to begin. If you are hoping to start off 2025 with a bit more art in day, check out the sessions, which offer every medium from drawing and painting, to printmaking, jewelry, ceramics, and even acting. There is a wide variety of options for all ages.

Take a look at the Abington Art Center’s “All Levels Metalsmithing” class. Those age 16 and over can hone existing skills or get to know the medium from day one. Have you always wanted to try your hand at some illustration? Try “Comics & Illustration.”

Watercolors, acrylics, and oil painting selections encourage all skill levels to pick up a paint brush. Or you can test your limits with block printing, clay modeling, or jewelry design.

Teens may be too young to remember the movie, “Ghost,” but most of us that are of that age have likely always wanted to use a wet wheel to create our own ceramic. Movie dreams aside, a Teen Ceramics Studio will run on Tuesdays for ages 13 to 17 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The class will mix a variety of hand-building and wet throwing skills. (If you’re more “of that age,” don’t worry. The adult “Intro to Wheel Throwing” is offered on Wednesdays.)

If you aren’t sure what to pick for your littlest of artists, some children’s courses offer options. Take the “Little Bit of Everything” course for those ages 4 to 6. Each Monday night, for ten straight weeks, Deejay Bosca will instruct youngsters on a mix of two-dimensional arts projects.

The Winter Classes sessions run from Jan. 13 to March 17 with ten full weeks of courses. To register for a course, review the guide at https://canvas.abingtonartcenter.org/classes?semester=Win25.

Interested students can sort the courses by medium, skill level, instructor, or starting date. Both adult and youth workshops are open.

Abington Art Center is located at 515 Meetinghouse Road in Jenkintown. For more information or any questions about offered courses, call 215-887-4882.
