Philadelphia has headed off a transit worker strike -- for now.
SEPTA and its unions have reached a tentative one-year deal after over 9,000 workers had approved a work stoppage. The strike would have impacted transit and other city services, including sanitation.
The deal includes a 5% wage increase and a pension increase, according to Action News. But it does not come with any healthcare concessions. Members still need to ratify the deal; votes will occur in the coming weeks. It will remain status quo until then.
SEPTA faces a $240 million shortfall, but Gov. Josh Shapiro has pledged he will not let it fail.
