Neighborhoods to check out

East Passyunk

The family-friendly spirit of Halloween is alive in this corner of South Philly, featuring events like this year’s Fall Fest, with themed costume contests, live music, vendors, pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating and more, held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 26. Local businesses will have sidewalk booths offering spooky snacks and festive cocktails for adults. This event is pet-friendly. With a rich tradition of decorating, stoop sitting and giving out treats, East Passyunk is one of the city's top trick-or-treat destinations. Several blocks are closed to traffic, ensuring a safe experience for children. Be sure to check out South 13th Street, particularly between Reed and Morris.

Graduate Hospital/Southwest Center City

Graduate Hospital buzzes with activity on Halloween night, making it a perfect spot for families with young children to enjoy a stroll. Just a bit closer to Rittenhouse in the Southwest Center City area, Delancey Street between 18th and 20th, really gets into the spirit with impressive decorations that you won’t want to miss!

Manayunk’s annual Main Street Trick-or-Treating

When: 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26

Manayunk goes all out with spooky fun for Halloween! Trick-or-treat at Manayunk’s annual Main Street Trick-or-Treating event and the Pretzel Park Farmers Market’s Costume Parade. Be sure to hop on the free Trick-or-Trolley on Fridays and Saturdays in October. The trolley stops include Philadelphia’s newest haunted attraction, Lincoln Mill Haunted House, which also hosts day-time scavenger hunts for those who want to avoid the scare actors. 

Franklin Fright Weekends at The Franklin Institute

When: Weekends through Oct. 27

The Franklin Institute wills the Halloween spirit to life in October with a month full of festive programs and experiences. Participate in activities and live science shows exploring topics from electricity and combustion to mystery dissections and gross anatomy. Be sure to catch a special appearance by Gourd’n the Giant Pumpkin Robot Bring a bag for trick-or-treating! All activities are included with museum admission.


Flyers Halloween Spooktacular at the Wells Fargo Center

When: 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31

Everyone gets a treat at the Wells Fargo Center as the Broad Street Bullies face off against the Carolina Hurricanes on Halloween. Fans are encouraged to dress up and participate in the arena-wide costume contest for a chance to win autographed Flyers merchandise. Young attendees can enjoy trick-or-treating on the Main Concourse from 5:30-7 p.m., and everyone will receive a Halloween-themed Flyers T-shirt and Snickers treats.


The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular at Sesame Place

When: Select dates through Nov. 3

Looking for some family-friendly spookiness? Sesame Place offers tricks and treats at The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular! This event features not one, not two, but six spooky attractions, including Halloween-themed shows and parades, a festive dining experience, a Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt with prizes, Halloween storytimes and a kids’ costume contest on Oct. 27. Families can enjoy plenty of trick-or-treating and photo opportunities throughout the park. Tickets are required, with additional ones needed for the Halloween dining experience.
