Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is discussing a sale of a minority stake of the team, according to a new report.
Gillian Tan and Randall Williams of Bloomberg report that Lurie is "is in talks to sell a minority stake in the Eagles to the family of technology titan Susan Y. Kim."
Kim is the executive vice chairman of Amkor, who provides the following bio on her:
"Kim was elected to Amkor’s Board of Directors in February 2015. Ms. Kim is a former Board Member of EB Games Corp. She is an active philanthropist who currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia. In the past, she has served on numerous Boards of Directors including The National Constitution Center, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Franklin Institute, The GESU School, and The Shipley School. Ms. Kim holds a B.A. in Sociology from Hamilton College. Susan Y. Kim is the daughter of Amkor’s Executive Chairman, James J. Kim."
Taking on minority owners can be part of estate planning, and there's no indication in this case that selling a small portion of the Eagles would have any affect on how the team is won.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the sale is that Bloomberg notes that the sale values the Eagles franchise at $8 billion. The most recent sale of an NFL team came when Josh Harris' group purchased the Washington Commanders in July of 2023 for a record $6.05 million.
