Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate selection is still being second guessed.
Polling guru Nate Silver -- the founder of FiveThirtyEight and now the proprietor of the Silver Bulletin newsletter -- said Harris "blew one big opportunity" by passing up Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, arguing Shapiro would have done more to help her "tack to the center."
"That a tiny minority of progressives objected to Shapiro was an argument in Shapiro’s favor, if anything," Silver wrote.
Walz has been well-received since getting the nod. And Harris is now effectively tied with former President Donald Trump in the all-important Keystone State, according to RealClearPolitics, after trailing by about two points when the VP pick was announced.
But Trump appears to be on the upswing in the state after Harris enjoyed a Democratic National Convention bump. And it stands to reason Harris would be polling better in Pennsylvania with Shapiro on the ticket -- not an insignificant consideration given the eventual winner of the presidential election will almost assuredly have to win the state to reach 270 Electoral College votes.
