Based on extensive research, including a dive through Google reviews, here are the five best places to enjoy Kennett Square mushrooms.




The Woodlands at Phillips Mushroom Farms


It doesn't get much bigger than Phillips Mushroom Farms when it comes to overall mushroom production. This family-farm has been around for over 90 years and has lasted through four generations. From classics like conventional whites and organic portabella to specialty mushrooms like Maitake, Shiitake and Lion's Mane, they offer every kind of mushroom in every kind of form you can think of. 

Try the gourmet products like mushroom coffees and seasonings for a fun approach to their mushrooms.




Kennett Square Farmer's Market

It might be an obvious choice for purchasing mushrooms in the Mushroom Capital of the World, but Kennett Square Farmer's Market really is one of the best places to purchase and try out mushrooms from all over Kennett Square. Tomorrow from 3 to 6 p.m. celebrates the market's 25th year and will serve as one of its biggest ever so be sure to swing by and check it out.




The Mushroom Cap

The Mushroom Cap is a shop full of mushroom gifts, collectibles, and of course, fresh-grown mushrooms for sale. Options include white, baby bella, Pennsylvania-grown shiitake, oyster, maitake, and portabella. When you're done making your purchase, be sure to check out the Mushroom Exhibit where you can learn how crop is produced, as well as view artifacts and paraphernalia from the mushroom industry through the decades.




Portabello's of Kennett Square


If you're looking to indulge in a mushroom dish, Prtabella's of Kennett Square offers some of the finest, according to reviews. Utilizing locally-sourced fungi, this restaurant offers delicious dishes including its Mushroom Risotto, created with brown butter mushrooms, shallot, porcini cream, grana padano cheese and chive. 

Another noteworthy staple is its Mushroom Soup, which uses Stinson’s Farm mushrooms, Madeira wine and fried shallots to give guests a warming option.




Talula's Table

Talula's Table describes itself as a  "gourmet market by day, artisanal destination dinner experience by night," and it seems to be a go-to spot for a fun dining experience. Book one of the Tasting Dinners and you'll be able to experience a variety of different dishes, with at least one incorporating a locally-grown mushroom. If you're looking for a quicker bite to eat though, this business offers what many describe as one of the best mushroom soups in the area— the Kennett Mushroom—perfect for keeping warm as temperatures begin to drop.
