Former President Donald Trump's controversial -- and refuted -- comments alleging migrants are abducting and eating animals and pets in an Ohio city have sparked a rash of artificial intelligence-generated memes.
The cliff notes: Trump amplified viral posts claiming Haitian immigrants residing in the Springfield, Ohio, area have been eating local animals and pets. He made the comments during Tuesday's presidential debate in Philadelphia after his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, initially caused a furor regarding the allegations.
A 911 call alleging people were taking ducks from a park in Springfield has been reported, but city officials have repeatedly denied the claims and no evidence has come forward. Springfield's public resources have been taxed by an influx of 12-15K Haitian migrants, and there have been calls for more federal and state support. But the migrants are in the country legally.
