A southbound Amtrak train struck and killed three individuals on the tracks in Bristol Borough. Thursday evening.

According to police, all three members were from the same family.

A father and two sons - Christopher Cramp, 56, David Cramp, 31, and Thomas Cramp, 24, were killed instantly when struck by the train.

Christopher and David's death were ruled accidental. Thomas' was ruled a suicide.

Officials say Christopher and David were attempting to stop Thomas from taking his own life when they were struck by the train.

The train, Northeast Regional Train 85, was enroute to Richmond, Va. and originated in Boston. It was scheduled to make a stop at Philadelphia's 30th Street station.

Bristol Borough police chief Joe Moors said during a press briefing that officers were dispatched to an area near the tracks at Beaver and Prospect streets at approximately 6 p.m. after reports that there were people on the train tracks.

Moors said an officer was making their way toward where the people were at when the train struck them.

The Cramps were well-known in the Bristol community. Christopher worked in the county's social services and had dedicated his life to helping the homeless and mentally ill in Bucks County.

David and Thomas were both fathers who worked for a local plumbing company.

Amtrak suspended service for several hours on Thursday evening, as was SEPTA's Trenton line. Both resumed late Thursday night.

Amtrak reported that there were 236 individuals on board the train. No one suffered any injuries.

Amtrak police will lead the investigation, which remains open.
