The good news for the Phillies Wednesday afternoon was that Trea Turner — who entered the day hitting just .236 with a .605 OPS since the All-Star Break — got back on track by reaching base four times against the Baltimore Orioles.
Unfortunately for the Phillies, that wasn't enough for them to complete the sweep of the Orioles. Baltimore starter Trevor Rogers scattered eight hits over six frames, holding the Phillies to just one run and striking out six.
Turner did drive in the run on a bloop single off of Rogers in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating Weston Wilson. But despite Turner adding in a double, triple and walk, the Phillies didn't manage to push across any other runs in Wednesday's matinee:

Meanwhile, the Orioles put up a four-spot on Ranger Suárez in the top of the fourth inning. Jeremiah Jackson delivered the first run on a double, before Coby Mayo added the other three with a 421-foot blast:

Though he gave the Phillies some length, it wasn't a particularly effective day for Suárez, who gave up nine hits and allowed five earned runs over 6 1/3 innings pitched. In his contract year, the 29-year-old lefty now has a 2.94 ERA to show for 17 starts.
With the loss, the Phillies drop to 65-49. Meanwhile, after salvaging the final game of this series, the Orioles are 52-63 in what's been a disastrous season for them.
The Phillies will be off Thursday, before they begin their longest road trip of the season Friday, a 10-game stretch that will include matchups with the Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals.
