A Philadelphia man with five prior theft convictions was sentenced to Montgomery County jail last month for shoplifting mroe than $700 in tequila from Fine Wine & Good Spirits in Hatfield.
Daquan Coy Reid-Hayes, 30, of the 90th block of Linton Street, pleaded guilty to felony retail theft and was sentenced to 101 days to 23 months in jail, according to court records, with credit for 101 days.
On March 15 at 2:23 p.m., police were called to the liquor store at 2333 Welsh Road in the Ralph’s Corner Shopping Center for a retail theft that occurred a half hour prior, according to the complaint.
Upon arrival, authorities met with a manager, who said Reid-Hayes, entered the store, walked to the tequila aisle and appeared to be looking at shelves. He then asked several questions to an employee about various types of alcohol, police said, while pushing a cart of various inebriants. ‘
Reid-Hayes then left the store and entered the passenger side of a white Chevrolet Suburban, police said. The manager went to check the shelves and found four boxed bottles of Don Julio Tequila Anejo 1942 tequila stolen, totaling $763.16, police said.
Surveillance video captured Reid-Hayes looking around and then concealing each bottle under his coat. The manager also took a picture of Reid-Hayes’s Suburban and license plate, police said.
On April 7, at 10:23 a.m., Hatfield Police were monitoring traffic on the 100 block of Bethlehem Pike in the township, when a white Suburban matching the registration of the SUV in the retail theft passed them northbound, police allege in the complaint. Police began following the SUV in the left passing lane approaching Advance Lane, police said.
Police said a portion of the center brake light was burned out and the rear windshield wiper was torn and hanging off in pieces.
The Suburban was stopped in the lot of Interstate Graphics on Bethlehem Pike and an officer approached on the passenger side, police said. Reid-Hayes was allegedly in the passenger seat and matched the description of the suspect.
When asked if he had any form of ID, Reid-Hayes said no, police allege. When asked for his name and date of birth, he told police “Jeaqan Thomas” with a birthdate of Oct. 15, 1995.
Reid-Hayes was told he was the subject of an official investigation, and that if he lied about his real ID he would then be arrested, police said. He looked away and refused to provide ID, allegedly claiming he needed to know what was going on.
He was asked to exit the car and he asked why, police said. The officer opened the door and asked Reid-Hayes to exit again, per the complaint. He refused, so police grabbed his right hand as he continued to tense his arm up and attempted to pull away, police said.
Reid-Hayes was removed from the SUV, where he continued to resist arrest and ignored commands to place his hands behind his back. He was eventually successfully taken into custody.
After he was arrested, Reid-Hayes told police his real name and birthdate, which revealed he had eight active warrants for retail theft and one forgery, plus five prior retail theft convictions between June 2014 and July 2016.
According to court records, at the time of his arrest, Reid-Hayes had two active criminal cases in Montgomery County court, including a May 1 arrest in Montgomery Township for felony theft stemming from a May 22, 2024 incident, and an April 25 arrest in Lower Salford Township on numerous felony theft charges stemming from a March 17, 2025 incident.
Reid-Hayes is banned from the Hatfield liquor store as part of his sentencing.
