Negotiations are continuing today between SEPTA and representatives of Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 234 in hopes of averting a work stoppage.

Local 234, represents 5,000 bus, subway and trolley operators and mechanics who have been working without a contract since Nov. 7. They authorized a strike in a vote last month. Negotiations have been tense, but the union credited Governor Josh Shapiro with keeping the two sides at the bargaining table for now.

“Governor Shapiro was instrumental in preventing a strike that could have started as soon as Monday morning. We're grateful for his close involvement and support,” TWU Local 234 President Will Vera in a press release.
