Home invasion in South Philly leaves one dead, one injured

Crime scene tape.

  • Public Safety

One man is dead and another injured after three men forced their way into a South Philadelphia home on Tuesday night.

A 27-year-old man was found dead on a couch with a gunshot wound to his head inside a home on the 400 block of Cross St., near 4th and Tasker in South Philadelphia just prior to 10 p.m.

The victim, who remains unidentified, did not live at the home, but often visited the homeowner, a 53-year-old man who witnessed the shooting.

The homeowner, who also has not been identified, told police that three men forced their way into his home and shot the victim.

They also beat the homeowner over the head with a gun, before fleeing the scene.

No motive is known for either the home invasion, or the shooting, or if this was a targeted or random attack.

Police were still gathering evidence from the scene Tuesday night and speaking with other witnesses in the area.
