The Abington Police Department announced that a second suspect has been taken into custody stemming from a home invasion on the 200 block of Cedar Road in the Elkins Park Section of Abington Township.

The following information was released by the Abington Police Department on Feb. 19:

On Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 at approximately 3:15 p.m., Abington Police Officers responded to a report of a home invasion on the 200 block of Cedar Rd in the Elkins Park Section of Abington Township. The homeowner reported that, while loading items into her car in her driveway, two suspects approached, held her at gun point, and announced a robbery. The suspects forced her into the home, where she and her adult son were held at gunpoint.

For nearly an hour, the suspects ransacked the home removing cash, jewelry, electronics, and collectibles from the home. Prior to leaving, the suspects tied up the victims and fled in the homeowner’s vehicle. A short time later, the victims managed to free themselves and call for help. Neither victim was injured.

Upon investigation, Abington Detectives discovered that the home had specifically been targeted by the suspects due to a personal connection that one of the suspects, 24-year-old Jonathan Dell of Philadelphia, had to a member of the household. Jonathan Dell was taken into custody by Abington Detectives with the assistance of the U.S Marshals Service on December 12, 2024.

Detectives continued to investigate this case and identified the second suspect in this incident as 18-year-old Jalen Douglas-Smith of Philadelphia. An arrest warrant was obtained by Abington Detectives for Douglas-Smith. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Douglas-Smith was taken into custody by members of the U.S Marshals Service in Philadelphia and transported to the Abington Police Department. Douglas-Smith was charged with multiple offenses including Robbery, Burglary, Kidnapping, and Assault and is awaiting arraignment in this case.

Criminal charges, and any discussion of thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
