A Philadelphia woman is charged with intent to distribute and resisting arrest after Upper Darby police initially stopped her for a shoplifting complaint.
According to a criminal complaint, police responded to a call at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, for a shoplifting incident at 460 South 69th Street.
The store employee told police that a woman, later identified as Jamiah Mi Love James, 29, concealed store merchandise on her person and left without paying. She was seen leaving the area in a Volkswagen sedan.
Another officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and made a stop on the 100 block of South 69th Street. Police arrested James, during which she resisted being placed in the back of the patrol car, according to the criminal complaint. James kicked the police car and attempted to kick and spit on officers, police said. Multiple officers were able to subdue James and place her in the back of the car, police said.
Police said a search of the vehicle revealed an assortment of pills, later identified as Alprozolam and Dextroamphetamine.
James is charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, one count of misdemeanor theft and three counts misdemeanor drug possession.
She is free on bond and is scheduled for a hearing Feb. 24.
