A Lyft driver is recovering in the hospital after being shot twice by his passengers, who also stole his car, early Thursday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. at 9th and Fairmount Streets in North Philadelphia.
The driver, a 58-year-old man, picked up a pair of passengers on the 900 block of Fairmount Ave., who, upon entering the vehicle, first attempted to rob him before shooting him twice - once in the arm and once in the chest.
After the shooting, the assailants threw the driver on the street and took off in the car, a black Chevrolet Malibu - with a Florida license plate.
One suspect, a 17-year-old male, was apprehended later Thursday in Jersey City, N.J. police are still searching for the other suspect.
The stolen vehicle and a gun were recovered.
Police had originally said the driver was working for Uber at the time of the incident, but has since updated that to say he was driving for Lyft.
Police surveillance video saw the carjackers driving south on 10th Street immediately after the carjacking. They were able to track down the vehicle and one of the suspects with assistance from the New Jersey State Police as well as the Jersey City Police and Irving Township Police.
The driver, who was able to walk two blocks after being shot before being found by authorities, was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in stable condition, but expected to survive.
