Four Philadelphia police officers were hospitalized late Saturday after responding to an illegal car meet up in Wynnefield Heights.
The meetup was taking place outside the Target on Monument Rd. near City Ave. More than 50 vehicles dispersed when police arrived, however, some did so recklessly, resulting in a police pursuit.
The chase made it into North Philadelphia, near the intersection of Broad and Tioga Streets, when crashes occurred that injured the officers.
"(The suspects) were driving at a fast rate of speed, directly at responding officers, causing two vehicles to swerve, crashing into poles and buildings at the side of the road," Inspector D.F. Pace told 6 ABC.
The night didn't end there as police identified another car from the meetup - a red Camaro - at 8th and Master Streets.
"As officers were attempting to stop that vehicle, the vehicle backed up and struck an officer. We know at least one officer during this incident discharged (his weapon)," Pace said.
The Camaro was later found in Upper Darby. Police say the car was stolen and had changed license plates at least twice overnight.
The suspect driving the Camaro is known to police both in Philadelphia and Upper Darby. Police surrounded a home in Upper Darby in the early morning hours of Sunday, but the suspect was not inside.
Three of the officers were in stable condition with injuries to their extremities, the condition of the fourth officer was not yet available.
Four suspects have been taken onto custody so far, however the driver of the Camaro is still on the loose.
