  • Things To Do

It’s Tuesday, and a fun and relaxing weekend might seem far away right now. But it is the ideal time to start shaping up some exciting weekend plans. Just a short drive away from the City of Brotherly Love, we aim to bring our readers a few options each week with the shows, concerts, plays, musicals, and live performances that are slated for this week (and the coming weekend) here in Philadelphia.

Each Tuesday, the Access Network will bring you a feature, Ticketing Tuesday, to give you the heads up about the best tickets in town. Whether you’re planning a romantic anniversary or looking to share your favorite musical with your children, there are always a wide variety of happenings in the city. We will bring you a glimpse of the city’s very best.

This very first week of our feature will bring you shows that span from Wednesday, Jan. 15 through Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025. If you’ve seen news of a show coming to Philly and want to be sure we don’t miss promoting it here, email [email protected].

Driving Miss Daisy at the Walnut Street Theatre

If you loved the 1989 flick on the silver screen with Jessica Tandy and her driver Morgan Freeman, you’ll easily fall for the live, on-stage version coming to the Walnut Street Theatre with “Driving Miss Daisy.” Sit back and laugh along with this live performance play which will follow the heartwarming story of an old Jewish woman and her African American chauffeur in the American South. The show runs through Feb. 2. For tickets and information, visit WalnutStreetTheatre.org or call 215-574-3550. The production runs one hours and ten minutes on the theatre’s main stage.

MJ the Musical at the Academy of Music

The Broadway series will bring “MJ the Musical” to the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, running through Jan. 19. The four-time Tony Award-winning hit is performed by nationally touring troupe and brings the hits of “The King of Pop” to life, live on stage. I’ll bet when you were bopping to Michael Jackon’s hits at the skating rink and teaching yourself the full “Thriller” dance, you never imagined his tunes being made into a musical. Find tickets online here.

An Evening with Josh Gad at Perelman Theater

Whether you know him best for being Olaf in Disney’s “Frozen,” or perhaps from his role as Elder Cunningham in Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon,” chances are you know Josh Gad. Slated for Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m., a one-night-only performance will bring the storytelling tales of the famed actor, sharing his experience from fatherhood to self-images. Each ticket will also include a signed copy of “In Gad We Trust,” too! Tickets are available here online.
