Eagles fans raise tens of thousands of dollars for California wildfire victims

  • Eagles

An Eagles fan went viral after using incredibly inappropriate language in an altercation with Packers fans last week. Ever-eager to lean into stereotypes about Philadelphia sports fans, national media outlets ran wild with the story, while fans of rival NFL teams sought to make the fan a poster child for all Birds fans.

Meanwhile, with far less attention, an anonymous Eagles fan started a GoFundMe page to help California wildfire victims ahead of Sunday's Eagles/Rams clash. The page, found here, has raised a total of more than $40,000 in donations from 892 individuals as of early Saturday afternoon.

Here's what the organizer wrote to solicit contributions:

Now that we know the Rams are our opponent and obviously LA is dealing with some seriously crazy stuff right now, I thought it might be nice ahead of the game to offer some help and support LA's way from birds fans (and especially after that horrible fan made life miserable for an opposing Packers fan and went viral for it). This fund is organized by Eagles fans in the Philadelphia area and beyond to benefit the California Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund.

We're still gonna kick the Rams' butts, but there's plenty of people in and around LA (Rams and birds' fans alike) that could use some help right now. I know a lot of the attention is going towards celebrities but there are plenty of everyday people who have lost a lot during this and are risking life and limb to help others.

It's almost as if the actions of one man aren't representative of the character of hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans.
