PennDOT holds public meeting on Schuylkill Expressway

I-76 flex lanes intended to ease congestion, promote safety

  • Government

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation invites the public to attend a live virtual public meeting on Thursday, Jan. 30, and an in-person public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 12, for the upcoming project to construct a third flexible travel or flex lane along I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) from U.S. 202 to I-476 in Upper Merion Township and West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County.

The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion, decrease congestion related crashes and increase travel time reliability along the corridor. A flex lane will provide temporary capacity enhancements during peak demand and allow for dynamic lane management during emergency operations, weather events and maintenance activities. The new third lane will serve as a shoulder during non-peak traffic hours.

As part of PennDOT's public outreach program, the department encourages the public to attend the live virtual public meeting on Jan. 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m., by clicking on this Microsoft Teams meeting link prior to the presentation start time. The department’s design team will deliver a project presentation before opening the meeting to questions using the platform’s Q&A feature.

Please note that internet access or a computer or mobile device are required to view the virtual meeting. Anyone with special needs or requiring special aid is requested to contact PennDOT Project Manager Mike Holva at [email protected].

Members of the public who are unable to join the online meeting, can attend an in-person public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Upper Merion Township Building at 175 West Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia.

The meeting will be conducted as an open house where citizens will have the opportunity to circulate among the subject displays to gather information and discuss the different facets of this project with PennDOT’s design teams. Information will also be available at the meeting to learn about a separate project to construct a third flexible travel along westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) from U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) to west of Belmont Avenue in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County and the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County. A virtual public meeting was held for this project on Oct. 10, 2024.
