Philadelphia, Bristol, Chester, and Wilmington are four of only 60 sites nationwide that had a post office in 1775 when Benjamin Franklin was appointed as the first Postmaster General.
Almost exactly 250 years to the day, on July 23, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m., the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be hosting unveiling ceremonies for two new stamps in celebration of the Postal Service’s 250th year serving the nation. The ceremonies will take place in the following four locations.
Philadelphia Main Post Office (3000 Chestnut St)
Bristol Post Office (699 Beaver St, Bristol, Pa.)
Wilmington's Talleyville Post Office (3911 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Del.)
Chester Post Office (400 Edgmont Ave, Chester, Pa.)
The USPS played a crucial role in America's fight for independence. The United States population only accounts for 4% of the world; however, our postal service handles 44% of mail across the entire world.
The "250-Year of Delivering" stamps are a pane of 20 interconnected stamps that show a bird's-eye view of a town. Each stamp is an illustrated frame that tells the story of a mail carrier's daily adventure as she walks her mail route. The story of the mail carrier progresses through the four seasons of the year.
‘Putting a Stamp on the American Experience’ is a 32-page booklet that provides a close look at the USPS's most popular stamps over the years.
