If you listen to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Phillies are in on everybody.

Earlier today we told you about his report that they could move Nick Castellanos tot he Royals.

On Wednesday he linked the Phillies to the Cleveland Guardians as a potential suitor for Steven Kwan.

Now, Heyman says, they are interested in Eugenio Suarez.

Here's an idea for Phillies President of Dave Dombrowski - trade all 26 guys on the current roster for 26 new guys from varying teams before the deadline.

I'm being facetious, of course, but I'm sure there's a sicko or two out there who would love that.

I guess we have to address this latest Heyman rumor, so here goes:

Suarez is exactly the kind of power bat the Phillies could use in the middle of their lineup. He's right-handed, leads the NL in home runs and would nicely protect Bryce Harper.

He also plays third base, which would force the Phillies into some defensive gymnastics if they were going to make such a trade.

One of two things would have to happen:

  1.  When Alec Bohm returns from his fractured rib, he moves to first base and Bryce Harper moves to the outfield to make room for Suarez.
  2.  The Phillies settle for Kyle Schwarber as an every day left fielder and make Suarez the new DH.

Neither seems like something the Phillies would really want to do - but, it is a bit of the outside the box thinking that sometimes teams pushing for a championship will employ.

There is another caveat to this whole thing - Suarez is in demand.

A lot of teams will want to trade with Arizona to acquire his services. He's the best power bat on the market and is a free agent after the season, so he's a rental, meaning the cost, while high, wouldn't be prohibitive.

After all, Heyman listed seven other teams where Suarez would be a fit aside from the Phillies.

The best part about that, though, is minutes after Heyman listed the Yankees as a team who is interested and a good fit, New York traded for Colorado third baseman Ryan McMahon.

Of course, this was only a few hours after Heyman declared Suarez the Yankees No. 1 trade target.

Which makes you wonder, who is feeding these guys this information? It's obviously someone with an agenda. An agent maybe. Someone from the trading team, possibly. Whomever, it's all a game.

Might Heyman get this one right? Sure. He's had some wins. But he's also had his share of losses too.

Six more days of craziness and rumor-mongering, then we can focus on the playoff chase - which is far more entertaining than rampant speculation, anyway.
