Nothing hits the spot like grabbing a donut on your way to work or school, but just imagine that donut is free.

Today, you don't have to imagine that. It is the first Friday of June, which means it is National Donut Day, and you can find all sorts of deals around Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.

Federal Donuts, a Philadelphia staple, is offering a free and fresh hot donut with any purchase, along with a greatest hits menu of their donuts, which is sponsored by Chefs' Warehouse.

Philly Daily reached out to the Federal Donuts located on South 12th Street, which will be open until 7 p.m..

“Nobody knows it's National Donut Day here; there's been like six people who have known,” said the shift lead at Federal Donuts. “But, everyone is really excited when they find out and they get a free donut.”

At 7 a.m. this morning, The Bakery, located at 2300 South Third Street in South Philadelphia, handed out free donuts to the first 50 customers.

“Ahhhh, that is why there was a line when you opened this morning,” Instagram user pacolgate commented on The Bakery’s post announcing their National Donut Day deal.

In the suburbs of Philadelphia, the famous Duck Donuts has three deals for its favorite holiday of the year.

The first deal that every person who walks into the store gets to enjoy is a free cinnamon sugar donut, free of any purchases. The second deal is six cinnamon sugar donuts for $6. The third and final deal is that you get a dollar off if you purchase a hot or cold coffee.

The Philly Daily spoke to Sarah Moyer, an employee at the King of Prussia location.

“Our half dozen is typically $13.50,” Moyer said. “So [the $6 deal] is a win.”

Moyer explained that this day is always the busiest day of the year since she started working at Duck Donuts two summers ago.

“There were people the entire day,” Moyer said. “I don't think there was any downtime my entire shift.”

The timing of National Donut Day could not come at a better time.

“It's perfect timing, there were some kids today who graduated from elementary school,” Moyer said. “It's a nice way to kick off the summer.”

Whether you have a sweet tooth or like to collect your freebies, National Donut Day is a day to be celebrated by all. So, grab your keys and drive over to the donut shop closest to you.
