Philadelphia police are actively investigating a fatal home invasion in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, after two armed intruders forced their way into a home, shooting two residents—one fatally—before fleeing the scene.
Authorities said the violent ordeal began just after 3 a.m. when two unidentified men knocked on the back door of a rooming house on the 7200 block of Walker Street and were admitted inside.
Once inside, the suspects descended to the basement, where they opened fire on a 49‑year‑old male resident, seriously wounding him before fleeing. The victim was later rushed into surgery and reportedly is in critical but stable condition.
As the intruders exited, they confronted a second occupant who had just returned in a BMW parked in the rear alley. The gunmen opened fire, fatally striking the man, believed to be in his mid‑30s, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small confirmed that investigators have yet to determine a motive but categorize the incident as a home invasion, noting the systematic approach of entry and shooting.
The Philadelphia Police Department is currently examining nearby surveillance footage and canvassing witnesses to piece together the identities of the two gunmen.
The department is urging anyone with information, or footage captured around the 7200 block of Walker Street just after 3 a.m., to step forward. The investigation remains ongoing
