There is no better place to celebrate Independence Day than in the country's birthplace of Philadelphia. 

In 1776, the nation’s independence was declared inside Independence Hall with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Whether you are looking to experience the history of Philadelphia, watch parades, or enjoy fun Independence Day-themed events, the city will offer it all on July 4th.

Where to Celebrate in Philadelphia:

Fireman’s Hall Museum

Where: Fireman’s Hall Museum 

When: July 4th at 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Fireman’s Hall Museum is located in Old City, Philadelphia, and is located in a renovated 1898 firehouse. Philadelphia is home to the first volunteer fire companies, with the first one being the Union Fire Company in 1736. This museum presents Philadelphia’s rich fire history, all while promoting fire safety.


Arch Street Meeting House

Where: Arch Street Meeting House

When: July 4th at 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Arch Street Meeting House was founded in 1682 and has been home to key events in two civil rights movements. In 1979, the site was the host for over 300 LGBTQ+ activities that planned the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay rights.


Independence Week 

Where: National Constitution Center

When: June 26th through July 6th

The National Constitution Center is celebrating the nation’s independence with an 11-day celebration. Check out the calendar to see what events will be available throughout the celebration. 


Fourth of July Week

Where: Museum of the American Revolution

When: June 28th through July 4th

The Museum of the American Revolution brings a look into the Revolutionary War through personal accounts and artifacts. The museum is hosting a Fourth of July week celebration, which will last a total of nine days. Check out the calendar to see what events will be available throughout the celebration. 


Celebration of Freedom Ceremony

Where: Independence Hall

When: July 4th at 10 a.m.

Independence Hall will be hosting the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony to formally kick off Independence Day Celebrations. The event will include words from Mayor Parker along with music from Diamond Kuts and Suzann Christine. The event will also include a reading of the Declaration of Independence in the spot it was first read 249 years later.


The 4th at the Fort at Fort Mifflin

Where: Fort Mifflin

When: July 4th at 10 a.m.

Fort Mifflin is the oldest continuous service military facility in the nation, first beginning service in 1771. Fort Mifflin is the location where colonial troops fought off the British Navy, giving Washington time to retreat to Valley Forge. 


Salute to Independence Parade 

Where: Route from South 5th & Chestnut Street to Arch & North Broad Street

When: July 4th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The annual Salute to Independence Parade is the nation’s largest Independence Day parade. The procession includes floats, dancers, marching bands, color guards, celebrities, and more entertainment. The parade begins near Independence Hall and concludes north of City Hall. 


Family Day at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

Where: Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

When: July 4th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The free American Jewish History Museum is the nation’s only museum exclusively devoted to preserving the history and culture of the Jewish community. After the Salute to Independence Parade, head over to the museum for a day full of activities.


Official Philadelphia July 4th Bar Crawl

Where: Various participating locations

When: July 4th at 4 p.m.

The annual bar crawl will celebrate the birth of the nation in the most loved bars in the city. Celebrate Independence Day with a nighttime celebration. The event will host live music, food trucks, vendors, a Ferris wheel, a beer garden, and more. Stay at the park until dark to enjoy the spectacular display of fireworks along the Delaware River.
