At around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report of a serious crash on a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The multi-vehicle pileup left two people dead and two other individuals with serious injuries on the eastbound lanes of I-76 at mile marker 342 near the Willow Grove interchange.

During the investigation, the eastbound lanes between Willow Grove and Fort Washington were closed, but have since reopened.

Police indicated that it appeared the two cars were racing and both lost control, crashing into barriers at a high rate of speed. Both drivers were killed.

A third vehicle subsequently struck one of the crashed vehicles and it's occupants sustained minor injuries. Other passing vehicles drove through the debris on the highway and sustained minor damage.
