Despite the fire being extinguished at SPS Technologies, there are still a number of growing concerns from residents who live within close proximity to the site.

Some residents have voiced concerns over air quality and testing, while others have worries about the quality of the soil on the ground.

To help collect all of these concerns and questions in one place, Abington Commissioners Bill Bole (Ward 12) and Matt Vahey (Ward 13) along with the Greater Glenside Civic Association are working to better understand the questions and concerns of residents and business owners following the SPS fire.

A community engagement forum has been created to help elected/government officials and civic volunteer leaders better understand what is on the minds of residents and business owners during the early days following the fire. The data collected will help inform communications outreach and also ensure that local officials can structure community engagement meetings in efficient and effective ways.

Questions listed on the form include items such as health and safety issues, the logistical next steps for the site, the financial impact of the SPS fire on the surrounding townships and borough, and more.
