Atlantic City has become a dessert destination.
The scent of chocolate can't help but relax dessert lovers upon entering Bar 32. New Jersey's only bean-to-bar chocolate shop is an ideal spot for those who enjoy delicious and aesthetically pleasing desserts and hand-crafted cocktails.
The difference between Bar 32 and similar shops is that owner Nicole Callazzo sources cacao beans from around the world and incorporates that chocolate into drinks and decadent dessert options.
Regarding the latter, it's a difficult choice. The names of the desserts are as outrageous as what's served.
"Outdated on Main Street Flourless Chocolate Cake" is exceptional. The cake is finished with a salted caramel, cocoa powder and ground espresso.
"The Opulence of Arena Rock meets the Innocence of Ice Cream on the Jersey Shore" is about as long as a Fiona Apple album title and as satisfying. You can't go wrong with three scoops of ice cream, the traditional troika of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry topped with mini peanut butter cups, walnut brittle, shaved Bar 32 chocolate and finished with Bar 32 chocolate, salted caramel and fresh whipped cream.
"Flatbush, DeKalb & Tennessee Avenue Cheesecake" is a combination of Brooklyn and Atlantic City. The classic cheesecake with fresh berries smothered in Bar 32 chocolate is an understandably popular item.
As for drinks, there's Yasgur's Spiked Milk Pint Mark's Chocolate Martini. Yes, it's a nod to Max Yasgur's farm, which was the site of Woodstock. There's some concert memorabilia at Bar 32 paying homage to the performers, who played the legendary event.
The spiked milk pints are served cold. The winning combination is Bar 32 chocolate with milk and vanilla infused vodka topped with salted caramel cream and shaved Bar 32 chocolate.
Those who love San Francisco will understand the go-to drink, "Late Night at Bimbo's 365." Mr. Black's Cold Brew Liquor and house made cacao infused godfather (Russell's Reserve Rye and Amaretto Disaronno) shaken until ice cold and topped lightly whipped cream and shaved Bar 32 chocolate is what propels the concoction.
For those who love chocolate and orange, there's Intense Orange, the Chocolate Old Fashioned. The rinds of 24 oranges are simmered in fresh squeezed orange juice with demerara sugar, cacao nib and vanilla. House made chocolate bitters are combined with Peychaud's bitters and Russell's Reserve Bourbon.
Folks spill in at all times at Bar 32.
"What's great about what we have here is that you can come after dinner but some people come in and have dessert before dinner," Callazzo said "Sometimes we have girls come in for a girls night out or people come after work. It's going well since who doesn't love chocolate?"
The casinos have some worthwhile post-dinner treats.
Hard Rock's Kuro features a delicious creation by Pastry Chef Thaddeus Dubois, the Chocolate Hazelnut Bar, which is comprised of raspberry, hazelnuts and dark chocolate.
Nobu at Caesars is extraordinary. The Nobu Baked Alaska, which is made up of miso caramel gelato, chocolate gelato, graham cracker cake and torched Kuromitsu Meringue is otherworldly.
The whiskey cappuccino, which features cardamom cream, toasted cinnamon crunch, express gelato topped by whiskey foam is wonderful.
Ocean tends to craft fun desserts. The "Pop-Tart" Ice Cream Sandwich is filled with house-made raspberry, vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry coulis. The unique cracker jack sundae features caramel popcorn and popcorn ice cream.
The tiramisu at Borgata Baking Company is fresh and tasty.
Bally's Jerry Longo's Meatballs and Martinis' makes a tremendous cannoli, which is made with housemade ricotta and chocolate chips. You can't go wrong with the gelato at Harrah's Cafe Tazza.
Brit Floyd will deliver Pink Floyd favorites Saturday at the Hard Rock.
The veteran cover band, which is touring with a massive production that includes lasers and inflatables, will focus on the album, "Wish You Were Here." Brit Floyd, will deliver cuts from that classic record and from such other Floyd albums as "The Wall" and "Animals."
