Motorcyclist killed in I-476 crash; Box truck driver sought

  • Public Safety

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 476 in Delaware County after reportedly losing control in poor weather and being struck by a passing box truck that did not stop, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers from the Media Station responded to the scene at approximately 4:45 p.m. a little more than a half mile before Exit 13 (Rt. 30) in the northbound lanes of I-476, in Radnor Township.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle had been weaving through traffic at high speeds despite adverse weather conditions. At some point, the rider lost control and fell onto the roadway.

As the operator slid across multiple lanes, they traveled into the path of a white box truck in the left lane. The truck struck the rider and continued northbound without stopping, authorities said.

A witness at the scene indicated it was unlikely the box truck’s driver saw the motorcyclist fall or realized a collision had occurred. Police said the circumstances suggest the driver may have been unaware of the incident.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released out of respect for the family.

All northbound lanes of I-476 were closed between exits 9 and 13 for several hours as troopers conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

As of Thursday evening, the striking vehicle has not been located or identified.

Anyone with information about the crash or the box truck involved is urged to contact Pennsylvania State Police at the Media Barracks.

No additional details were immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
