Wonder Food Hall, the delivery platform that combines multiple restaurants in one kitchen, opened in Fishtown today.
Wonder has been gaining popularity for its innovative takeout and delivery platform, which allows customers to mix and match meals from a variety of cuisines in a single order. According to the company, deliveries can be expected in under 30 minutes, with no extra delivery fee.
“We own the full end-to-end, from the consumer marketplace to producing the food,” Executive Vice President of Restaurant Operations Jason Rusk, said.
What sets Wonder apart, Rusk said, alongside the ability to get multiple cuisines in one order, is that it controls every step of the delivery process, unlike other restaurants, which rely on services like DoorDash.
After starting in New York, Rusk said Wonder plans to grow all along the northeast, with 90 new restaurants opening this year. The Fishtown location is the first of 10 Wonder restaurants coming to Philly this summer. Other locations include King of Prussia, Ardmore, West Chester and Northeast Philly.
“I think Fishtown is just such a really unique, special neighborhood of Philly that's diverse and growing, and has lots of great restaurants,” Rusk said. “And we think that Wonder can offer the people of Fishtown some really good new options and a multi-order restaurant.”
To cultivate its menu, Wonder hand-picks its culinary partners. Wonder has built relationships with several world-renowned chefs, including Bobby Flay, Jose Andres, and Marcus Samuelsson over the last five years. Culinary options range from Michelin stars to local favorites.
Each location has a different set of curated restaurants chosen by Wonder’s team based on the demographics and interests of the area.
“Think of it like this, this is the best of America, brought to Philly, or brought to Washington, D.C. or New York,” Rusk said.
Rusk recommended that new customers try an unconventional combination with the brisket alongside the carrot soufflé from Tejas Barbeque, a well-known Texas eatery. If you're looking for something safe, the Detroit Brick Pizza is also a popular favorite, Rusk said.
The Fishtown restaurant officially announced its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will follow with a weekend of activities including several art installations and a Friday happy hour.
With every order placed during opening week, one dollar will be donated to the non-profit food bank, Philabundance.
