The Museum of the American Revolution Presents Tavern Night on November 21

  • Things To Do

The Museum of the American Revolution will present an after-hours event to highlight how colonial taverns sparked the fight for independence.

“How did the Revolution’s drinkers, eaters, and leaders raise a glass 250 years ago, and to which causes around the world? Inspired by our new special exhibition, The Declaration’s Journey, and the role of taverns in sparking America’s experiment in liberty, equality, and self-government, join the Museum of the American Revolution for AmRev Presents: Tavern Night, Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, from 5:15-8:30 p.min the Museum’s Lenfest Myer Theater.

“The night at the Museum will kick off with a cocktail reception and access to The Declaration’s Journey, which explores the 250-year history and global impact of the Declaration of Independence. Dan Wheelerowner of Revolutionary-era bar A Man Full of Trouble and a member of the Museum’s Board of Directors, will open the program at 6:15 p.m. by sharing the story of the tavern’s unlikely survival, recent preservation, and its reopening in time for the nation’s Semiquincentennial.”

“Understanding tavern culture is essential to appreciating how people shared information in Colonial times,” Wheeler said. “Unlike today's bars, taverns were meeting places at a time when few others were available. Taverns were places to exchange ideas. Revolutionary thoughts were conceived and refined in taverns, and a nation was born.”

“Tavern Night will provide visitors the opportunity to grab a drink and take up a Revolutionary tradition that continues to spark conversations about independence and democracy today,” said Special Programs Producer Hannah Boettcher. “Tavern culture remains relevant because it continues to be a place for dynamic and diverse people to connect.”

Tickets for this event are $35 for general admission and $30 for Museum Members, and can be purchased here Blackbaud. All tickets include a themed happy hour with light refreshments prior to the program and special exhibition access. This is a 21-and-over event.
