Philadelphia Police: Together, We Can Prevent Auto Theft

  • Crime

The Philadelphia Police Department announced that it was going door-to-door to share important information on auto theft prevention and how one can protect one’s vehicle from high-tech thieves.

“Criminals are now using devices that can reprogram your key fob and start your car -silently and within seconds. Most thefts are happening between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m,” the Philadelphia Police stated. “We want to make sure every resident has the tools and knowledge to stay protected.”

The Philadelphia Police offers auto theft crime prevention tips below:

  • Lock your vehicle at all times
  • Never leave your car running unattended
  • Use theft deterrents such as a steering wheel lock, car alarm, kill switch, and Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) lock
  • Don’t leave your key fob near the front door unless it’s in a Faraday bag
  • Park in well-lit or visible areas whenever possible
  • Check with your dealership for the latest anti-theft updates
  • Report suspicious activity immediately

The Philadelphia Police said that they will be in Philadelphia neighborhoods, knocking on doors, handing out flyers, and answering questions.

Take five minutes to watch this important video with Lt. Brian Geer of the Major Crimes Auto Squad for more prevention tips:

“Thank you for helping keep our streets safe; because together, we can prevent auto theft.”
