Tenants reporting to the Media-based Delaware County Republican Headquarters on Wednesday morning found the building’s front door to be broken. The full glass entryway, with push-bar handles at its middle, was broken in its lower half on the right-side door only. The left side of the double doors remained intact.

Glass from the door was strewn in the front entryway, along its tile floor. The glass appeared to have broken from the outside, pushed in. According to the building’s tenants, nothing else appeared to be disturbed.

Those entering the office Wednesday morning at the start of business contacted police when they’d found the broken glass.

Sgt. Richard Leicht of the Media Borough Police Department was one of the officers responding to the scene after the Wednesday morning call. He said that thus far, the case is “only a door with broken glass.”

“We are investigating the matter,” said Leicht. “There was surveillance video, and we cannot make any determination until we view that.” The video footage, which was not recorded at the GOP office itself, was to arrive to police in the coming day.

Leicht said it was unclear if there was any purpose behind the breakage. However, no other damages in the area had yet been reported to the station.

“There have been some tensions because of politics, but nothing like this,” he said of the broken glass. “Until we know more, it could have happened to be anything. There was nothing on the ground to indicate how this happened.”
