On October 2nd, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel announced the development of a Five-Year strategic plan for public safety for the city that is being created with input from city residents. Bethel was joined at the press conference by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker.
“The Philadelphia Police Department is launching a collaborative process to develop its first ever Five-Year Strategic Plan,” Bethel told reporters. “This plan will guide our department’s priorities and strategies from 2026 to 2030. We are starting from the ground up—and we want the voices of those who the PPD serves and those who serve within it at the center.”
Commissioner Bethel added that “in order to understand the needs of the community, we have to stop telling the community what we want and start asking the community what they need. Together with our community, city partners, and department personnel, we are working to build a safer Philadelphia.”
