Phillies Nuggets: Dave Dombrowski, Rafael Marchán and more notes from Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE — After a bizarre Tuesday off day, the Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound Wednesday evening looking to clinch a series victory over Jose Quintana and the NL-best Brewers.

Here are some nuggets from Milwaukee before Game 2 of this potential postseason preview.

  • The Phillies placed reliever Daniel Robert on the 15-day injured list with forearm tightness, retroactive to Sept. 2. Max Lazar has been recalled. Robert told On Pattison that he experienced tightness during his 16-pitch outing Monday, and was waiting for the results of an MRI he underwent this morning. Less than half an hour later, Rob Thomson said that the imaging showed the strain and that Robert won't throw for two weeks.
  • The roof will be closed at American Family Field Tuesday after having been open for Monday's instant-classic game that saw the Phillies win a back-and-forth game over the Brewers 10-8.

  • Not that there has been any credible speculation otherwise, but in case you were wondering, Phillies' president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told On Pattison Wednesday afternoon that regardless of how this season finishes, he has no plans to retire. The 69-year-old is healthy and still has tremendous energy. The Phillies gave Dombrowski a three-year contract extension after the 2022 season that runs through the 2027 season.
  • Garrett Stubbs pinch ran for Kyle Schwarber late in Monday's win, and he's someone that could be a top option to pinch run down the stretch because he is "a smart, good baserunner," per Thomson. Using him to pinch run would also leave Weston Wilson and/or Edmundo Sosa on the bench as pinch-hit options later in the game.
  • With that said, Thomson made clear Wednesday that Rafael Marchán is still the backup catcher to J.T. Realmuto. In fact, Thomson was very complimentary of Marchán, calling him a "tireless preparer," and saying that "for that job, he's had a really, really good year."
