Blazing fast Internet, Unlimited data. Many of us have gone through terms like these while searching for a good internet service. But the question here is whether they really offer blazing-fast and unlimited data?
Don’t fall for these fancy words; it's better that you do your own research while choosing an internet service.
In this article, I will discuss factors that need to be considered while opting for an internet plan, so you can make a smart decision that actually fits your needs.
So, let's get started!
Before opting for an internet plan, I always consider the speed and bandwidth. Speed simply means how fast the data transfers, and bandwidth is the capacity to handle multiple tasks.
These two things ensure lag free and smooth experience. Low bandwidth leads to sluggish performance, whereas insufficient speed slows down the streaming and file downloads.
Bandwidth is important to support multiple devices and users. We can say that bandwidth is the capacity of the Internet to handle multiple users using the Internet at the same time. Higher bandwidth ensures that the connection does not slow down or choke for anyone.
I love watching films and hosting movie nights at my home. For me, a fast internet connection is essential since no one wants their internet to take a break when the climax is about to hit.
So, high definition or 4K streaming requires a lot of data transfer. Low speeds lead to instant buffering and frustration among users like me. It's better for users to subscribe to a high-speed connection to avoid quality drops.
Considering the internet connection type is a very important factor since it directly affects the speed, reliability, and latency. Choosing a good connection type from a well-reputed internet provider will ensure you meet your business or household demands.
There are so many connection types available in the market, such as fiber, DSL, satellite, 5G, etc. But in my opinion, fiber internet is the best.
This is because it offers symmetrical speeds, which means that the download and upload speeds are the same, which leads to a fast internet connection.
This is very beneficial for users who love gaming, since it offers consistent and superior data transmission through light signals, rather than using traditional copper cables.
If you are living somewhere in a rural area, where traditional connection types are not available, then satellite internet is recommended since a decent speed directly from space, bypassing the need for expensive ground-based connection types.
I usually do not recommend users to subscribe to a satellite internet plan because of its low speed, but one thing good about it is that it has a wide coverage, which means that even if you are in the mountains of Alaska, or somewhere in the Sonoran Desert, satellite internet will always be available.
Considering cost and contracts for internet service is critical for price-sensitive people. Users should always find hidden fees and ensure that they are getting the speed they are paying for.
It also impacts the long-term budget of the user. A similar thing like this happened to me when I experienced a price hike of $30 per month after an initial introductory period.
Moreover, one thing that I have learned is that never trust promotional prices since they are designed to attract new customers.
You will come across a deal, for example, “Get unlimited data with 100 Mbps of speed for just $50 per month.” But the question here is whether the data is really unlimited?
Or, for much time is this deal valid?
Furthermore, I would recommend not opting for bundling discounts. This is just my personal opinion, since in bundles you get a lot of those things that you really don’t need.
For example, you want an internet plan, but the representative will convince you to get the plan that includes TV and other services.
Do not get in that trap; it's their everyday job, and they get a decent amount of commission if a user subscribes to the bundle or deal.
Customer service is a crucial factor that should be considered while choosing an internet provider. For me, it is one of the primary things, since if something happens and I am not guided properly to resolve it, this is a big turn-off point for me.
Internet issues like outages or other technical problems are obvious; they will happen. An internet provider with good customer service will offer around-the-clock support to diagnose the problem and solve it.
In my opinion, a good provider offers multiple channels of communication, like chat, phone, or even email. And the most important thing, they should be knowledgeable. They should know how to solve customer queries and address them properly.
If a representative does not know about the thing they are working for or working in, how will they manage to help us?
The term customer support is very self-explanatory; providers should know how support their customers to solve the problems effectively and efficiently in less time.
Considering security features is also an important factor in protecting personal and financial data from cyber criminals and avoiding malware or phishing attacks.
Many people in the US are facing cybersecurity problems, and I believe choosing a provider that has good security features is like a first line of defense against hackers.
Many ISPs offer security measures like built-in firewalls and anti-malware tools to protect devices and users' data, such as banking information and passwords.
ISPs like Spectrum, AT&T, and many others use AI or automated monitoring that can detect threats and automatically block them without letting the user know.
Moreover, the system can also scan incoming traffic for malicious sites that can protect against malware downloads and phishing attacks.
However, do look into these factors before choosing an internet service. I believe the consistency, price, and quality of the internet depend on the ISP. Do keep in mind all these points before signing up, and thank me later for letting you know all this.
