A.J. Brown says 'sometimes change is not a bad thing' in regards to coaching staff turnover

A.J. Brown didn't speak to media members after he turned in a questionable effort in a season-ending loss to the San Francisco 49ers, so his appearance on Micah Parsons' podcast this week represented the first time that he spoke publicly since a tumultuous season.

Brown had this to say of the offense as a whole, a unit that obviously was very disappointing considering the talent it returned coming off of a Super Bowl LIX.

"As an offense, we just come back and really watch the tape and just, like I said earlier, rediscover ourselves and go to work each and every day," Brown said. "Being accountable ... and just taking it one day at a time. We have great leaders in our locker room, and I'm fortunate to be a part of that, especially on the offense. We do have a lot of talent, but talent gets us nowhere. So, it's all about being detailed and being disciplined."

Of course, one of the major changes between winning Super Bowl LIX and an extremely frustrating 2025 season was that Kevin Patullo was promoted to offensive coordinator, replacing Kellen Moore after he was hired to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Brown clearly didn't want to dis Patullo, who served as the pass game coordinator during the receiver's first three seasons on the Eagles. But he acknowledged there's some excitement for changes on the coaching staff, namely Sean Mannion taking over as offensive coordinator.

"Yeah, of course," Brown said. "I'm always excited. Sometimes, change is not a bad thing. I have the utmost respect for KP [Kevin Patullo]. To me, he did a tremendous job, and he has a great heart. But I'm excited for the season, I'm excited for what's to come."

Does Brown sounding optimistic — while being perhaps more diplomatic than he's been at other times — mean he's definitely coming back to the Eagles in 2026? Not really. If anything, not giving the vibe that he's desperate to get out of Philadelphia might give Howie Roseman a bit more leverage if he does listen to offers on the three-time Pro Bowler. Yes, the cap implications of moving on from Brown would be, well, ugly. The Eagles would also have to settle for a much lower trade return than most fans would want. But it felt like at multiple points during the 2025 season that Brown's relationship with the Eagles had run its course.

It will be interesting to see if any offseason conversations Brown has with or about this Eagles change their perspective on whether he can return for another season in Midnight Green, or if the answer they had at the end of a 23-19 home Wild Card loss to an undermanned 49ers team will ultimately be what wins out when the team has to decide on the wideout's future.
