During his pregame meeting with the media, Sixers coach Nick Nurse said that star guard Tyrese Maxey was meeting with hand specialists and that an update would be given after the game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Well, bad news couldn't wait until then. The Sixers just announced: "Following consultation with multiple hand specialists, which included a review of additional imaging, Tyrese Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury to the small finger on his right hand. Maxey will be reevaluated in approximately three weeks. Further updates will be provided as appropriate."

Three weeks takes the Sixers to March 31. Even if he were to be cleared to play then, the team would have just seven games remaining in the regular season. Of course, if he is cleared around then, getting back into basketball shape and all could take even a few more days or so. Wishful thinking would be having Maxey back for the final handful (no pun intended) of games. Reality says the hope would be for him to be healthy come playoff time.

Maxey hurt the finger after colliding with Adem Bona late in the Sixers loss Saturday to the Atlanta Hawks. The hope was for him to miss a couple of games or so. Now, it's yet another setback for a team that has been filled with them this season.

Nurse said before the game that Joel Embiid (right oblique strain) is still scheduled to be reevaluated at the end of this week. Paul George will be finished serving his 25-game suspension by the March 25 game against the Chicago Bulls.
