An appeals court has upheld the double life sentence for a Middletown Township man who beheaded his father and shared a video of the remains on YouTube.

The Superior Court of Pennsylvania affirmed the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas’ sentence against Justin Mohn, 34, this week.

The decision held that Mohn will remain in state prison without the possibility of parole.

A three-judge panel rejected Mohn’s appeal related to his July 2025 conviction on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, terrorism, and related offenses.

The charges stemmed from the Jan. 30, 2024, killing of his father, Michael Mohn.

According to court records, the younger Mohn shot his father in the head in a bathroom at their Upper Orchard Drive home in Middletown Township’s Levittown section before decapitating him. He then recorded a video featuring the severed head and a rant against the government, which he posted to YouTube.

After the killing, Mohn fled Bucks County and went to Fort Indiantown Gap, a large Pennsylvania National Guard base near Harrisburg, in an ill-fated attempt to seize control of the troops and overturn the federal government.

During his four-day bench trial before Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Judge Stephen Corr, Mohn testified in his own defense.

The man characterized the killing of his father as a “lawful” citizen’s arrest that had gone wrong.

Mohn claimed he intended to apprehend his father based on a deluded belief that the elder Mohn, a well-liked engineer who worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, had committed treason.

Bucks County and Middletown Township detectives found a USB drive and letters in Mohn’s possession containing a hit list of federal officials and evidence of what prosecutors described as his hatred of the federal government.

In his appeal, Mohn argued that the trial court should have granted a motion for acquittal. He claimed the verdict was against the “manifest weight of the evidence.” He maintained that his actions were “justified and therefore lawful.”

The appellate panel ruled that Mohn waived his right to his appeal claims.

President Superior Court Judge Anne E. Lazarus wrote that Mohn’s legal brief confused challenges regarding the weight of evidence with those dealing with the sufficiency of evidence.

“Mohn has conflated sufficiency and weight in violation of our case law and, thus, his claims are waived,” Lazarus stated in the decision.

Mohn’s history includes a series of dismissed lawsuits and claims of being discriminated against for his intelligence and for being white. He had a 2023 encounter with police after the FBI received tips about his online posting.

While in court, the Neshaminy High School graduate admitted his self-described militia had no other members and conceded he had a limited chance of overthrowing the federal government.

In the wake of his arrest, Mohn has reportedly authored letters regarding his case to the Russian Embassy, podcaster Joe Rogan, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and former cable news host Tucker Carlson.
