BalletX’s Spring Series 2026 To Be Performed at Suzanne Roberts Theatre

  • Arts and Entertainment

BalletX’s Spring Series 2026 will be performed at the Suzanne Roberts Theater from March 19th to March 22nd.

“Experience an unforgettable trio of works by BalletX co-founderMatthew Neenan, “ BalletX stated. “Matthew Neenan is celebrated for his groundbreaking choreography, musicality, and creativity. In his 28th world premiere for the company, he joins forces with award-winning composer and musician Scott Ordway and designer Christopher Ash to explore how simple gestures gain strength in unity – a joyful reminder of what we can achieve together.

“Broke Apart, a landmark in BalletX’s history, premiered to sold-out crowds at the 2006 Fringe Festival. Exploring “boundaries both physical and emotional” (Philadelphia Inquirer), this magnetic ballet is set to a score of hits by female artists including Joanna Newsom, Martha Wainwright, and Cyndi Lauper.

“Show Me was co-commissioned with the Vail Dance Festival in 2015. Hailed as “winning and witty” by The New York Times and set to the music of string quartet Brooklyn Rider, this work shows off the physical prowess and idiosyncratic personalities of BalletX’s dancers, as only Matthew Neenan can.”

BalletX states that they expand the vocabulary of contemporary ballet for all audiences through innovative performances, world premiere choreography, dance education, and community programs.

“BalletX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet, unites artistic innovation with technical excellence to forge new works of athleticism, emotion, and grace. Founded in 2005 and led by Artistic & Executive Director Christine Cox, the company has commissioned over 80 choreographers from around the world to produce 150 world premieres that are “fresh, inclusive, and connect to what people want” (Philadelphia Citizen). With a versatile and diverse ensemble of 16 dancers, hailed as “among America’s best” by The New York Times, BalletX pushes the boundaries of classical ballet to tell today’s stories with passion, creativity, and exuberance. As a vibrant global incubator for artistic talent, the company makes ballet accessible and inviting, captivating audiences at prestigious venues including The Kennedy Center, Vail Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Through performances, international touring, and meaningful community outreach, BalletX creates extraordinary dance experiences that inspire human connection.

“BalletX’s distinctive contribution to the American dance community has been recognized and supported in recent years by generous grants from the William Penn Foundation, Wyncote Foundation, Shubert Foundation, Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, Ruth Foundation for the Arts, the Jerome Robbins New Essential Works (NEW) Program, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, and PECO, among many others
