Ambler residents have a hometown reason to celebrate National Cheesesteak Day this year.
Local favorite Verona Pizza, located at 1941 Norristown Road, is stepping into the spotlight Tuesday, March 24, representing the borough in a regional cheesesteak showdown tied directly to the annual celebration.
The free event, billed as a fan-voted “Cheesesteak Knockout,” is part of National Cheesesteak Day festivities across the Philadelphia area. It runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at Metro by T-Mobile, 2118 Cottman Avenue, where more than 10 eateries will serve samples and compete for local bragging rights.
For Ambler locals, the focus is firmly on Verona Pizza. Known in the community for its cheesesteaks and casual Italian fare, the shop will go head-to-head with some of Philadelphia’s most recognizable names, including Pat’s King of Steaks, Del Rossi’s, Woodrow’s, Campo’s Philly Cheesesteak and Cleaver’s.
Attendees will be able to taste each competitor’s take on the iconic sandwich and cast votes for their favorite, while a panel of judges crowns an “Ultimate Cheesesteak Champion,” complete with a $1,000 prize.
Hosted by Roxy Romeo, the event will also feature music, giveaways and appearances from local food personalities, turning the competition into a full-scale celebration of one of the region’s most iconic foods.
Philadelphia may never fully agree on what makes the perfect cheesesteak—but on National Cheesesteak Day, Ambler residents can rally behind one clear contender as Verona Pizza takes its shot against the city’s best.
