While Labor Day weekend signifies the unofficial end of summer, there’s still plenty to do in Philly this weekend.
Stroll the Street, Thursday, August 29th
Main Street Manayunk will come alive with live music, local artists & vendors, happy hour specials, and shopping deals all while leaning into the neighborhood’s creative community. Back again this year is the MNYK Artbox which will host art demos, interactive installations, musical performances, a doggie fashion show, and more.
August is themed “Pet Month” with pet-friendly vendors, organizations, and activities. This week's event features a pup-cup buffet for four-legged friends.
Les Misérables, now through September 8th
Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables, at The Academy of Music. The limited engagement runs through September 8th.
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. This epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.
Saturday Night unWINEd, Saturday, August 31st
The Summer unWINEd Concert series at Shady Brook Farm combines the best of live music, craft beer, award-winning local wines and tasty food. Feel free to bring your own chairs. Benches and picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No outside food or drinks are allowed. This Saturday will feature fireworks around 9:30pm.
Cannstatter Volksfest, Saturday, August 31st through Monday, September 2nd
The 152nd Cannstatter Volksfest boasts three days of German food, music and fun. The annual Fest held on Labor Day weekend draws thousands of people, both German-Americans and others, to observe and participate in this colorful, ethnic event.
One of the oldest and largest of the German-American clubs in Philadelphia, the Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein was founded in 1873 for the purpose of celebrating the customs and traditions of their homeland, especially the annual harvest festival held in the town of Bad Cannstatt.
Kiss-n-Grind, Sunday, September 1st
Kiss-n-Grind is a fun and lively lifestyle event series that combines the best of soulful music, dancing, and socializing. It's where people come together to enjoy great music from various genres derived from the African Diaspora including R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, House, Reggae, Afro Beats, Salsa, Dembow and more.
KnG originated in Los Angeles, California. It was founded by DJ and music producer Vikter Duplaix and radio personality Garth Trinidad in the early 2000s along with co-resident Dj Rashida. Since its inception, Kiss-n-Grind has gained popularity and expanded to other cities across the United States, including New York, Philadelphia, Miami and Atlanta.
Cannonball Festival, Sunday, September 1st through 29th
From September 1 through 29, Cannonball Festival, the largest hub of the FringeArts Fest, presents over 120 different full length productions. From rebellious circus, delicious dance, fearless theater and activist art to workshops, parties, and more, Cannonball pushes the boundaries of live performance across four different venues this Fringe.
The peer-selected "Panel Picks" include winners of the BIPOC New Work Track and Al-Bustan Award, the inaugural Black Circus Week.
